Kellogg's, Week Five: Top Summer Activities, and a $100 Visa Gift Card

This is sponsored content by BlogHer and Kellogg's.

This is the fifth of twelve weekly posts sponsored by BlogHer and Kellogg's. EACH POST will have its own $100 gift card giveaway. The plan is to have each giveaway start on Tuesday and run until the following Monday.

This week's topic is Top Summer Activities: What were your favorite family moments/activities this summer? And, you know, did any of them involve a memorable BREAKFAST or CEREAL, since breakfast/cereal is our theme for this series?

This was a particularly fun and eventful summer for us. My favorite moment was the most recent: my daughter got her ears pierced. But we also got a kitten and got a goldfish and made jam from berries growing in our yard. And let's not discount the thrill of running into the girl my high school boyfriend cheated on me with when I was dressed cute and she was wearing a Winnie-the-Pooh t-shirt.

Sadly for someone who has been hired to write a series of breakfast cereal posts, none of these memories involve breakfast, or cereal. But if you will allow it, I'd like to point out that this can be considered a point in cereal's favor: because cereal is such an easy and fuss-free way to feed children, we could get on with our summer stuff unhindered. And, AND, it's inexpensive, so we had lots of money for earrings and kittens! Yeah? Yeah? Would you go along with that, since that's what I've got?

Eat up, Henry, you little savage

To enter the giveaway, leave a comment about your memorable summer family moments/activities (especially awesome if BREAKFAST is involved---in which case I should have asked you to guest post) on this post by Monday, September 13, 2010. Entrants must be U.S. residents at least 18 years old. One entry per post per person. To get an additional entry, blog or tweet the contest and then leave a comment with a link to the post or tweet.

We've been going to a resort in the Myrtle Beach area for the last couple of years that we absolutely love. They have a Starbucks on site! We stop there every morning for breakfast and then head off to the beach. It's a great way to start the day!

We had the best summer with a nice long beach vacation and sending my son to camp.

I live on the Oregon coast, so one of our favorite summer activities we call "Breakfast at the Beach". Where we... you guessed it... cook and eat our breakfast at the beach! Anyway, it is a favorite! =)

We haven't done too much this summer since it's hubby's busy season :( But we did go to Hersheypark and my son has been talking about it every day since (2 months!!) So I guess that counts as memorable!

divrchk said...

My favorite moment this summer was watching the light bulb go off in my son's head on how to catch the perfect wave.

Jess said...

This summer was pretty much dominated by The Pregnancy. And the accompanying sickness early on. And while I wouldn't say that morning sickness forms a memory I'd like to cherish, it DID involve cereal as that was one of the only things that made me feel better for a long time. Does that count?

Leanne said...

Summer breakfasts are awesome! We make pancakes with berries and then eat them under the gazebo. Mornings are about the only time we can sit outside and still be cool!

Jana said...

Watching my kids have fun swimming was my favorite over-all memory from this summer. My favorite breakfast memory was when I made my mil's famous French Toast and was told by my hubby that he liked my version better. :)

Mama Bub said...

I was just going through our summer photos and we've done A LOT. My favorite moment was probably the Fourth of July picnic in the park, followed by fireworks. And, (watch this) after a late night, I was happy to have cereal to turn to for an easy breakfast the next morning. See what I dd there?

Julie said...

This was the summer I got my kids to eat cereal for breakfast, thus making mornings so much easier and enjoyable for me. That has carried over into the school year, and, boy howdy, is it nice. Love cereal.

Beth said...

Cereal? We did eat some this summer, generally with bananas. We had a nice summer, but it is stressful to figure and juggle child care during working hours when there is no pre-school, so I am happy that summer is over.

Kari said...

Warm Sunday mornings with loved ones in the back yard with bees buzzing around the rose bushes and table piled high with blueberry pancakes, ripe strawberries and fresh squeezed orange juice.

Melanie said...

I found out I was pregnant this summer, which did lead to me finally eating breakfast every morning. Since I never did before, cereal was certainly the easiest option!

Actually my favorite summer memory does involve cereal. We decorated my daughter's first birthday cake with cereal instead of sprinkles and such so that she would be tempted to grab at it. Instead, she picked off one froot loop, attempted to feed it it her dad and shunned the rest of the cake. Alas, no smash cake pics for us.

Julie said...

Making pancakes and waffles with fresh-picked bluberries!

Amy said...

We took a week off work to tour the sites in our city with our toddler and cereal was a lifesaver for us as it is an easy snack for her when we were on the go. It is also good for breakfast:)

Mary said...

Well my summer was pretty much 100% terrible. But I did go to lots of parks for my job. So that should count I guess.

The hightlight of my summer was kayaking among the migrating shorebirds in Cape Breton. They didn't mind my presence at all. I was able to sit quietly among them when my boat beached on their sandbar and get lots of beautiful photographs. ~karen

I had 2 things that were memorable this summer. My daughter participated in her first triathalon and I went with her. It was a wonderful weekend in Traverse City with my oh so grown up (22yo) daughter. The second thing was a few days away with my hubby in the heart of Amish country (Berlin Ohio) just the 2 of us. Great giveaway!

One particularly fun memory was this weekend with the girls at the state fair. I gave my niece my camera and let her take all the pictures that she wanted. I ended up with pictures of every single rabbit, chicken, and baby goat at the fair.

In other breakfast related news, entering this contest for the last three weeks has thrown me into a cereal eating jag. Good Job bloggers and Kellogg's.

One of my favorite moments of this summer actuality does involve breakfast. We had gone to the mountains for vacation and we drove overnight (so the kids would sleep and not torment me the whole way) and we arrived early in the morning. it was too early to go to our cabin, so we headed to a little restaurant on the river and had breakfast on the deck in one of the most beautiful settings I have ever seen. It was a peaceful way to start the vacation before everyone else showed up.

Snoopyfan said...

Every summer we camp in my in-laws backyard one weekend and each family is in charge of bringing the food for one meal. I always choose breakfast because 1) I hate camping but if I bring the breakfast it helps my foul morning mood due to no sleep, and 2) It is easy! I always bring the multi-pack of little boxes of cereal, homemade baked goods and eggs and bacon. Yum!

Makes camping slightly tolerable.

I gave birth to my 2nd daughter on June 15. So you know, that was kind of a memorable moment this summer. ;-)

I'd say...spending time shopping and going to lunch together was one of my favorite things about this summer!
