Pop-Tarts Outing and a $100 Visa Gift Card Giveaway

This is a compensated review by BlogHer and Pop-Tarts.

My 5-year-old twins are starting kindergarten this fall, and the school suggests bringing them to the playground during the summer so (1) they can get used to playing on it and (2) they will associate kindergarten with fun things. So off we went, them with their playclothes and me with my book, to do our respective fun kindergarten things.

Fun thing!

Fun thing!

Fun thing!

My job for my second Pop-Tarts post was to bring Pop-Tarts on a fun outing, so I saw the perfect opportunity to merge two tasks. I had coupons from Pop-Tarts for free boxes, so we had a selection of flavors on hand: Elizabeth chose Frosted Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough, Edward chose Frosted S'Mores, Henry chose Frosted Blueberry, and I chose Frosted S'Mores. (I would not have predicted that I would like the S'mores flavor, but the key is that the pastry part tastes like graham cracker. So then it's like a chocolate-marshmallow graham cracker cookie. Mmmmm.)

Fun thing!

The giveaway portion goes like this: BlogHer is giving away a $100 Visa gift card. I've written two Pop-Tarts posts, this one and the previous one. There's one gift card for the two Pop-Tarts posts together. The random drawing will be July 4th, 2010.

To enter, leave a comment telling me what your favorite flavor of Pop-Tarts is, or telling me whether you like them toasted or right-out-of-the-box, or saying which unusual flavor you might be willing to try, or really anything about Pop-Tarts.

You have 9 other chances to win: go to the BlogHer.com special offers page to get the links.

See the official rules for more details.

I have always loves the s'mores poptarts for the same reason. They're even better if you microwave them.

My favorite is the chocolate fudge. Brown sugar cinnamon is my 2nd choice. I just looked online to see what other flavors they have and ice cream sandwich and hot fudge sundae sound yummy.

I don't like them toasted - I'm a straight outta the package kinda gal.

I already commented on the last post (so delete at will), but wanted to say:

How SMART of the school to have the kids play on the playground to associate 'fun' and 'school'. SMART.

Also,

OMG Those canNOT be your kids! They are so grown up! What happened?!?! Look how long Elizabeth's hair is!

Shelly Overlook said...

I'm a strawberry kind of girl, either straight from the package or toasted, I'm not picky.

How are the twins about to start kindergarten? That simply cannot be!!!!

Lisa said...

I love the chocolate fudge pop-tarts.

Melanie said...

I usually stick with strawberry, but I also like the Brown Sugar Cinnamon ones. Yum!

Lora said...

My favorite is the regular cherry--no frosting. But then, I like the crust part of pie the best. Definitely toasted, not "raw."

Slightly toasted blueberry.

Kristin said...

I truly adore the S'more Pop-Tarts toasted.

Mami2jcn said...

I like the blueberry pop tarts, right out of the box. I don't think I've ever toasted a pop tart.

Frosted cherry, toasted. Best. Ever.

Kristin said...

I like brown sugar Poptarts, and they must be toasted.

I want a key lime flavor. Thanks for the contest.

brittae@yahoo.com said...

Toasted, for sure. And I second the key-lime idea. That sounds good.

strawberry oh yes :)

I'm not an unusual flavor friend when it comes to Pop Tarts. I prefer the frosted strawberry. I do wish they made a frosted baked apple pie though. I prefer mine toasted.

Megan said...

I like brown sugar ones! YUM YUM. Nothing pop tart toasted ever. I also like the strawberry ones. The choc chip cookie dough sounds like it might be good!

Mary said...

Frosted Cherry! And never ever toasted. I do not enjoy warm pastry.

I like strawberry, frosted, and only toasted. Boring, I know, but there you have it.

Frosted blueberry, untoasted. I also like the s'mores, but they must be toasted. The marshmallow gets all gooey and delish.

Kristen said...

Mmm reading this post has me craving pop tarts. If I had to pick a favorite, I think I would go with the one my mom always gave us when we were little. It was the unfrosted brown sugar. She would always toast it and then spread just a little butter on top. Yum!

Kathleen said...

S'more s'mores here! :-)
I like them straight out of the box.

Cherry is my downfall, and all these pop-tart related posts are steering me right off my diet, although I'm oddly okay with that.

I eat them right out of the box.

Strawberry and right out of the box!

Emily said...

The frosted cherry ones are my favorite.

I too am a S'mores fan--I like the graham crust so much better than the regular kind.

Keith and Natalie said...

Okay, so call my Daddy weird....but I grew up with him serving BUTTERED pop tarts. Yes. Buttered. Brown Sugar Cinnamon, Frosted, and BUTTERED (toasted, of course)

pestkaj said...

I honestly think I would try any flavor they offered, I love pop tarts that much!

My favorite is RED (okay! raspberry or strawberry or cherry!) with frosting (mmmm ... crunchy!). BLUE is good too. Definitely toasted ... mmmm ... hot and crunchy! Love them. I m-i-g-h-t be willing to try a graham-crackery crust type, but I'm pretty loyal to the original.

Amanda said...

I only eat brown sugar cinnamon frosted and toasted. There is no other pop tart for me!

Fran said...

My favorite flavor is frosted raspberry, but we also like to use the chocolate fugge ones to make ice cream sandwiches with!
And I prefer them straight out of the box, no toasting needed :)

Lauren said...

The s'mores is definitely my favorite flavor and I love them just as much toasted or straight out of the box!

Jen said...

Ooh! Brown sugar and cinnamon...right out of the wrapper. Yurm!

Our favorite flavor is strawberry and we love it toasted! So yuumy to eat in the mornings.

Annie said...

I like the fruit ones only if they're straight out of the box. But I like the chocolatey/non-fruit flavors only if they're toasted. Go figure.

Leigh said...

My favorite is strawberry...warm from the toaster! Yum!

Nikki said...

Call me boring, but my favorite is the plain old brown sugar - toasted with an ice cold glass of milk.

Melissa Haworth said...

I'm not sure if I'm actually eligible to win with a comment like this but I haven't had a pop tart in soooo long I don't recall much about them. I think I had a strawberry one in college so maybe I like strawberry? I guess if I won $100 I could splurge on a box of pop tarts and get back to you but more likely I'd be buying drywall or some other exciting item for our budget-all-consuming bathroom remodel.

Anyway, glad you had a FUN outing!

lisa said...

Is it weird that I only like the outsides of them (like the crust part) but not the filled middle?

StephLove said...

I can't eat Pop Tarts because I'm a vegetarian and they have gelatin in them, but I'd still like to win $100.

My absolute favorite is unfrosted blueberry PopTarts. When those aren't available, I buy unfrosted strawberry.

Thanks for a great giveaway!

My favorite flavor is Frosted Cherry right-out-of-the-box. I don't like them toasted at all - yuck!

Brown sugar, untoasted from the stash in my desk. I want to try the milkshake flavor. Addictive! ;)

I like frosted strawberry or cinnamon roll, toasted with melted butter on top.

It really is a good idea for the school to have the kids come and get used to the playground. Familiarity is always a good thing when everything else is new.

Elizabeth in Chicago said...

I've never toasted a pop tart in my life.

sara said...

I did have a small side-track into hot fudge sundae, but mostly I rock the classic frosted strawberry. Straight from the box baby!

-R- said...

I would totally try the chocolate chip cookie dough flavor.

Saly said...

Brown sugar cinnamon is totally my fave. The kids like chocolate. I'd be willing to tyr the new sundae flavor though!

Sara said...

Strawberry, definitely, and toasted.

Whimsy said...

Brown sugar cinnamon, no others. And it MUST be toasted. The inside gets a little melty and hot and it's just so yummy....

I'm now going to have to go buy a box.

I love cookies and cream! its like a cookie i can eat for breakfast. And I like them toasted and untoasted, depending on the occasion. I've eaten an ungodly amount of poptarts this pregnancy. At least til the GD kicked in. :/

Anne J said...

I like them toasted, but my kids just eat them right out of the box.

Definitely toasted. I think I've only ever tried strawberry and brown sugar, but am open to all these other flavors people are mentioning!

C (Kid Things) said...

My kids really like the brown sugar cinnamon. We put ours in the microwave for about 8 seconds, since I'm too lazy usually to take out our toaster.

Kelsey said...

What a great way to get ready for Kindergarten!

I like brown sugar pop tarts, not frosted, toasted. With black coffee. Would like to have that for breakfast everyday, thanks!

el-e-e said...

can't remember if I can enter on both your posts but I assume I can.

I never eat my Pop Tarts toasted, but I think I would like them that way if I had the time. (How sad is that??)

Miss Grace said...

IF I were going to buy pop-tarts, which I'm not, it would be the brown sugar cinnemon (<-how do you spell that word?) kind.

Little-Bit said...

Unfrosted brown sugar and cinnamon. Good stuff.

Hillary said...

It's a tossup between the frosted brown sugar and the frosted strawberry.

And toasted. Definitely toasted.

Kelly said...

I love the brown sugar/cinnamon as a PopTart classic, but also love Smores. You are right - it is all about the graham. :) And I take mine toasted - not raw.

angie lilly said...

My fav pop-tart has always been their frosted grape flavor. hmmm do they still make those? I liked them right out of the package! LOL

I'm not really a breakfast person but last weekend I had a PopTart while visiting someone and loved it. No idea why they never occurred to me before. My favorite was Brown Sugar but the Fudge one was pretty good too. Yum!

I will certainly have to try your Fourth of July Pop Tart creation!

Devany said...

The kindergarten teacher in me says, "What a great idea!"

I like cherry pop-tarts, DEFINITELY toasted!!!

I've always been a sucker for the brown sugar cinnamon frosted ones but I like them warm not cold.

Love the Brown Sugar Cinnamon (milk free!!!) or Chocolate Fudge Sundae or Cookie Dough if we are not being sensitive to those in the family who cannot eat them.

My oldest is getting ready for kindergarten and we just went to his playground. I think it's a great idea!

Livinia Redlips said...

Strawberry.
Microwaved.
Edges picked off.

nanann said...

I still need to decide what kindergarten I'm sending my daughter to, and then maybe we'll go to its playground!

My fave? One of the berries -- blueberry or strawberry. *not* toasted. Edges are one of the best things, unless you dare to toast it, and then the edges aren't so great anymore.

Shelly said...

I LOVE the s'mores pop tarts, which I also thought would not be my thing at first. But you're right - it's the graham cracker-ness that makes it great!

Sara said...

I like them hot and toasty, especially the S'mores one to get the full melty effect. Yum!

CAQuincy said...

I'm also partial to the strawberry ones. The chocolate ones are GREAT for desert!

And...there is no way those sweet babies of yours are old enough for kindergarten now...?

And you know what else? They hardly EVER go on the playground in kindergarten at my kids' school. There just isn't enough time in the day to go outside! Another argument for all-day kindergarten. I mean, it's quite a CUTE little playground!

Janine said...

I love the Brown Sugar Cinnamon Poptarts, especially if they are warmed up.

Doing my best said...

So many flavors...I haven't tried S'mores, but they sound good! I love brown sugar and cinnamon, and the chocolate crust chocolate filling flavor.
I can't believe your BABIES are old enough for kindergarten!!!

Sam said...

It blows my mind that I am going to have my baby in kindergarten some day. Chicken never attended kindergarten, so it will be a first for me.

PS Your babies are ADORABLE.

Tina S. said...

I like the strawberry ones, but I never met a Pop-Tart I didn't like. Like you pointed out, one of the best things about them is that they are DONE! By the way, your kids are so cute.

VickieB said...

I like the Strawberry and definitely toasted

H-Talbot said...

Our favorites are strawberry, raspberry, and smores! I nuke them in the microwave for 13 secs, so they're warm but not toasted. Yummy!!

Leslie said...

I'm a fruit (cherry, mostly) frosted (definitely) girl. Sadly, my toaster has bagel-grips that grab Pop-Tarts and will not let them go until they're hot gummy crumbs. So it's either the microwave for me or "raw."

Mari said...

I like my pop tarts right out of the tox, untoasted. Cherry pop tarts are my fave.
